Our mission at 2nd Chance Farm is to come alongside at risk youth and families with the hope, healing, encouragement and love of Christ through the gospel message. It is our heart’s desire for each youth that God will heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
We are dedicated to showing the love of Christ through mentorship, Bible Study,
discipleship, and learning horsemanship skills. Kids are paired with a horse that will
be their companion while they are in the program.
With their horse, they work on developing a foundation of trust, growing
the relationship and ultimately riding. The horses at the farm are only tools that
God uses. God is the only true healer of a broken heart. The youth are encouraged
that they are unique – fearfully and wonderfully made by their Creator who
took such love, care and creativity to make them for his pleasure.
How Second Chance Farm Came to Be
God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God to those who are called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
A young girl that learned to grow up quickly living in home with an abusive alcoholic Father. She found refuge, peace and comfort during years of darkness through the Grace bestowed upon her by Jesus Christ and some horses that were bought from auction. These horses came with scars in their past. Together they began building a bond of trust, which led to the start of the healing process which gave her hope and a purpose for the future.
In 2014 after many years of prayers, preparation, training and serving the Lord opened up the doors for Carrie and Kevin Marsman to start a program for troubled or abused children, on a piece of property they bought in 2013. It was a property that sat empty for nearly 3 years. It had not been taken care of or winterized and was vandalized. Everything of worth was stolen. It was totally wooded, but God had a plan for this place.
We came up with the name 2nd Chance because through Christ, we are all given a second chance. Most of the things/animals have come to us through a second chance.
We started with a broken hearted little girl and a mini horse. During that time we found a neglected, abused, insecure horse that was rescued. Girl and horse worked through the tragedy that they survived and were able to start to heal and forgive.
